CFC OF WESTERN MD----FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What is the CFC?  The CFC is the only workplace giving campaign authorized by the Federal Government.
  2.
  3. Do I have to give through the CFC?  No.  The CFC is highly regulated to ensure that employees are in no way pressured to give.  Giving is strictly a personal choice, and Federal Employees can be sure that they have the freedom to give or not to give.
  4.
  5. What is the Payroll Deduction Option?  Through Payroll Deduction Federal Employees may choose to have a certain amount of funds come out of their pay check each pay period from January through December, 2009.  This is accomplished through the employee’s payroll office in the same way that any other employee deductions are taken out.
  6.
  7. Can I specify which organization will receive my contribution?  Yes.  You may designate on your Pledge Form which organization, or organizations you desire to contribute to by listing their assigned designation codes for the local CFC.  Those codes will be listed beside the description of the organization in the Campaign Charity List (Brochure).
  8.
  9. What if I choose not to specify to an organization to receive my CFC contribution?  This is referred to as an “undesignated contribution”, and is distributed to all organizations in the Charity List in the same proportion as they receive designations.
  10.
  11. Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?  Yes.  A copy of your Pledge Form will be provided as your receipt.
  12.
  13. What if my circumstances change during the year, and I need to discontinue my payroll deduction?  May I do so?  Yes.  You may discontinue your deduction by notifying your payroll office and instructing them to stop your deduction to CFC.
  14.
  15. How can I find out more about the many organizations listed in the Charity List?  One useful source is the website www.guidestar.org.  It has a wealth of information on numerous nonprofit organizations.  Another good source is the Maryland Secretary of State Charitable Affairs Division.  And, of course, potential givers are encouraged to notify the organizations themselves for additional details on finances, mission, etc.
